CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
WORDS+ MAIN PAGE

In late 2019, I bought a NEC Versa M/75 laptop on e-bay that came with a "Words Plus Commpaq System 2000" device. At first I thought it was some kind of weird intercom or communications unit for a store or something, turns out it's an AAC, so what is an AAC? Well....

Alternative Augmentative Commuincations - aka AAC - is something used within the medical industy for people who have problems being able to communicate via traditional means. Sign Language is one way, another way is to have someone use a device hooked up to a computer and use some kind of input device to select words and phrases to communicate. One very famous user was the Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking - who at one point used Words+ Products. Words+ is not the only system in the name, the DECTalk seems to have contributed some of it's DNA to the Words+ systems.

So, being as I'm a musician, and I hate singing (I hate my voice), but I have THIS thing, I started seeing about using a AAC as a "lead vocalist" for my works, even if It just leads to me making up fun Dr. Demento/Weird Al style music with it. But also, being a techie kind of guy, I decided to do a deep-dive of research on this.
