Now, you should IMAGINE how much I snickered when I first read Parasit Studio CMOS tutorials. Because that's where I'm lifting a lot of this from. I suggest you go there and read those too since it's pretty much the same thing I'm doing a big data dump on here, though this is more my experiences.
So back in 2018, I was really getting into the ideas of making a Guitar Synthesizer. Parasit Studios already has several designed and made, but I wanted my own unique piece. This was really the basis of the Gain Boy and the Guitari 2600 pedals and polyphonic guitar ideas. So I bought some CMOS chips on e-bay and went to town building. This is how my brain organized all that information.
I also will link to Wikipedia here so that you can see the full list of chips used in this. Who knows, I might find uses for more than just those listed below that I've already used. I'll be expanding this section more and more in time as I start to branch out on my own and experiment more and more.
CHIP#
| PKG(S)
| DESCRIPTION
| USAGE
|
40106
| Schmidt-Trigger/Hex Inverter
| six schmidt triggers on one chip
| Used in homebrew synths for oscillators a lot, the heart of my Guitari2600 devices
|
4015
| Quad Shift Registers
| Includes a clock
| This is used most often for Octave Up Operations. Usually the clock is tied to the oscillator so it locks synch.
|
4046
| Phase Locked Loop (PLL)
| Phase-locked loop with Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO)
| This is used as a VCO for guitar synthesizers (hehe, kinda, I did the Guitari2600 WITHOUT This one by getting pretty weird with my circuit - lol). Usually this is what is used to capture the voltage of the guitar and use it to control and oscillator. More experiments pending.
|
4069
| Hex Inverter
| Six Hex Inverters, Non Schmidt-Trigger
| CMOS Hex Inverter, great for Fuzzes, Tube Emulation, and Distortion/Overdrive pedals. This is one of my favorite chips in this series due to how useful it is powered and not powered. With no power applied, the hex inverters in it makes a solid state guitar amp circuit sound like a Tube Amp (!!!).
|
4070
| Quad XOR Gate
| States 2 inputs....but?
| This is used most often for Octave Down Operations, usually 1 octave down, and 2 octaves down. Could probably build a basic Ocatve pedal just using this particular unit.
