|IBM COMPATIBLE PC GAMES|
PC platform came out in August of 1981 - 40 years ago as of this
publishing - as the IBM Personal Computer 5150. People much
anticipated the release of this machine due to IBM's clout as a
Mainframe Computer manufacturer and a leader in technology at the
time. Paired with a bluff from Microsoft that was MS-DOS -
this was the beginning of the x86 IBM Compatible PC as a platform.
Today it's still a dominant platform with more mature and
technical minded gamers.
This page focuses on the gaming aspect of the PC - modern and vintage (though there is more focus on vintage stuff here TBH). If you want more technical stuff - there's my Vintage PC pages and then there's the Modern Computing section under Miscellanious.
Anyway, I started playing PC games at age 8 both at school and at the babysitter's. However, I did not get into it big until I was 10 and my older sister installed Monkey Island on her 386. This introduced me to the world of DOS Gaming, which was about as underground as Punk Rock in the mid-70's at the time. So this page will focus mostly on just games, franchises, and reviews, and whatnot....like the other sections of the Gaming section does.
GAMES I HAVE PLAYED ENOUGH TO KNOW A THING OR TWO ABOUT
Something unique to the world of computer gaming, vs console gaming, is the fact that the platform was one of the first to contain software in the form of digital downloads. So even without Emulation, I don't have to rely on physical media to enjoy these titles on original hardware. Let me just warn you it's a mess below of new and old since the IBM Compatible PC is reaching it's 40th birthday in less than a month as of this writing, so I've put the O/S next to it. It will be slow moving as I write out each section about each game as there are a TON of PC Games I've focused on at one time or another.
