MS. PAC-MAN |
Pac-Man was one of the most successful game franchises of the 1980's and of course it would have a follow up with sequels almost quick enough to put it in competition with Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's for who can produce a sequel faster. Ms. Pac-Man I believe was released due to the allure of the game to humans of the female pursuasion, a big deal in the 1980's, when traditional gender roles were pounded into your head with a figurative sledgehammer, and done so again if you veered even a millimeter off track. See, BOYS back in the 80's were "supposed" to be into G.I. Joe, Baseball, He-Man and Masters of the Universe, and Video Games, while little GIRLS were "supposed" to be into Barbie, My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, and Strawberry Shortcake - NOT Atari. That was the middle-america medocrity standard for childhood gender roles, and seriously, screw them, if I wanted to play with my sister's Barbie Corvette, that makes me nothing more than a kid who likes cars and does not give a crap about the color pink, kapis!?!? So they released Pac-Man's peppier girlfriend's game, Ms. Pac-Man, and honestly, Ms. Pac-Man is more bada** than Mr. Pac-Man in some respects. She's faster, more nimble, and her port actually did a job nobody whines about 40 years later like her boyfriend's game. So it has endured quite well. The only 2600 Game my Wife will actually play - My Experiences My road with Ms. Pac-Man for the 2600 has been an odd one. It started off when one of these carts KILLED my 1977 Sunnyvale Heavy Sixer as someone requested I "Fix" the cart for them. This pissed me off, but at least it's how I got the best Atari 2600 I've owned thus far, the light sixer Sears Telegames I currently have, which I got for $5.00 via a glitched e-bay auction that dissappeared until I won the console (must've been kismet). I later picked up a copy at a thrift shop in 2007ish and that's the copy I have now. It's the only game on the 2600 my wife will play because the "tiny graphics" of the other games bother her eyes. So that's kind of it's role, couples video game night stuff, though I play alone once in awhile. Videos |
