CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
NIGHT DRIVER
Ah yes, Night Driver - not Knight Rider - NIGHT DRIVER. This was an arcade game made by Atari in 1978 and one of their last to be in monochrome and feature plastic inserts (which is what that blocky thing in the middle of the screen is supposed to be). In 1978, they released a 2600 port as well, adn this is it, a frantic, blocky, high speed driving game where you are driving on some unnamed road at night with other cars and houses as your obstacles, and a timer to get the most miles for high score.

One interesting bit of trivia people don't know is it's actually supposed to be a 1st person view from behind the wheel, and that thing in the middle of the screen is your supercharger, not the whole car (just like the arcade game). However, Night Driver was buried by better racers like Enduro and Pole Position eventually by the early 80's, so it sort of floats around as another one of those standard cartridges everyone had but rarely mentions.

Racin' With the Devil - My Experiences
Somehow, when I start this up, I feel like the beginning of "Running with the Devil" by Van-Halen should start playing. We know I like cars, and this was the FIRST driving game I ever played, and needless to say, I sucked at it. I was maybe 3 when I first played it. Still did not get the hang of it until my teen years. I still play it once in awhile, but it's not something you'll sit around and play for hours, more something you'll play for 15 minutes until you get bored of it, and move to a better racing game, like Enduro or Pole Position

The basic gist of it is you are driving, first person, down what looks like (if I blur my vision really good) a rural one-lane road in the middle of the night, with wooden posts sticking out of the ground at the edges of the street, with the occasional house or car passing by, the cars probably honk in protest of your speed rampage, and sometimes you even hit a house. I think this will sound weird, but truth be told, I think this game was setup with too tight turns and to run by default, in either difficulty level, just a little too fast to have time to react to anything that appears on screen.
