TAZ |
In 1983, through a Looney Tunes license, Atari released the game TAZ, a game where you played the Tasmanian Devil from the Looney Tunes franchise, as he hangs around in some space-needle-on-steroids resturant eating root beer floats, hamburgers, and avoiding sticks of dynamite. Lter the game was re-adapted as "Asterix" which was a popular arcade title based on a comic I believe, around the same time this game game out.
Basically, that's the whole game, roam up and down this hexagonal, tiered, resturant or whatever, eating root beer floats, hamburgers, fries, shakes, ice cream cones, and any other assorted "fast food" (I get the joke, ha ha), being sent your way. Unlike Fast Food though, this game does not tell you you're getting fatter, and makes all kinds of digital burp, belch, and fart noises, and thankfully, Taz in whirlwind form is not anywhere near as gross as a pair of disembodied yet well animated gums chowing down on junk food. Today, I feel weird as a middle aged man who basically sees the Looney Tunes characters, especially some of the side characters like Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, and of course, Taz, sort of forgotten in the realms of celluloid animation history, or so completley re-written they are entirely different from their original, more wild incarnations that I grew up with. This is the Weirdest Resturant I've Ever Seen - My Experiences I got Taz for my first Atari in 1989. My sister played it usually, I played it once in awhile. This was one I chased down for quite a bit since I started collecting, just not with the fervor and fury I did for say....Pitfall II or Spiderman. It's another one of those "short spurt" releases I occaisonally pop in to kill a few moments and see how high a score I can get. Still wondering why we have a resturant that looks like the Night Ranger logo minus the Night Ranger....or like a multi-floor version of the Space Needle, inhabited by a Tasmanian Devil - a creature from another country - eating the same diet as Charlie Brown's dog Snoopy. |
