CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
WARLORDS
Warlords was an Arcade game by Atari that was ported to the Atari Video Computer System (CX-2600) in 1978. It's a 4-player, Paddle-based arcade game where the objective is to use your paddle to protect your king - whose hidden behind a brick wall- by keeping a ball that flies around the screen from destroying your barrier and killing your kingdom. There are 10 rounds a campaign and those who survive the most times wins as indicated by the score that matches the color of their paddle. It's sort of like a up-to 4-player simultanious, competitive, violent, Super Breakout. It was also programmed by one of the earliest female Developers - Carla Meninsky.

The Atari 2600 release did a pretty good job of replicating the arcade original at the time and was one of those titles that sold quite a few copies. Not quite Combat or Pac-Man tier, but it's more like Pole Position, Missle Command tier, it's not always in piles full of commons, but it's there. It found a spot in my collection because it's a fun game, plus it can get pretty hilarious on social media with filters....I had some REAL fun with this on Instagram.

I mean, there's not much to say about Warlords. It's just a good old Atari 2600 game from it's golden heyday of 1978-1982 that got some pretty good distribution. Well worth the $1.89-3.00 you'll probably pay for it now. Not really much to say here about it. Definatley the right game to get some friends over, put on some Foreigner, Journey, and The Cars, and rock out while beating each other up in 4-player 8-bit combat.
FLASH - My Experiences
Warlords was one of those games we got a long long time ago when I was a baby, that's how I first found out about it. I vaguely recall us getting a Coleco Gemini sometime around 1985 and my sister's were playing this on it while I was playing with some kind of die-cast contstruction set toys I had just got.

When I got older I used to dupe my sister's and mom into rounds of this with me. It was not one of their favorites, but I liked it because the computer player is a tad, uh, predictable. That said, I spent a lot of nights playing this as a teenager in the late 90's listening to Foreginer and Cars records. "At War with the World" seems like an apropriate soundtrack for this one, lol.

Currently it's one of the multiplayer games that I have in my collection should someday we decide to play it, until then, I'm probably stuck playing by myself against 4 computer opponents. That said, I'm pretty good at this game and do a good job of "duping" the computer players a lot, mostly through fast-reflex moves after grabbing the ball, to make sure I land a hit on their castle. That's usually my tactic, grab, psyche-out, then shoot.
