Super Contra 7 (超级战魂 [Chāojí zhàn hún] 1996, E.S.C. Co./Waixing, Famicom/Famiclones |
E.S.C. Co. is a subsidiary of Waixing INC, which is a Chinese company that makes Bootleg Famicom games. Super Contra 7 is an unlicensed Famicom/Famiclone title based on the Konami Contra franchise, and apparently made/released in 1996. It's a side scrolling action platformer shoot-em'-up/beat-em'-up just like the official Contra franchise games.
The game starts the player with "5" lives (though it's actually 4 lives, malfunctions/misprogramming is a common thing in these "bootleg" famicom games). Most of the levels are supposedly original Waixing/ESC created content, through the first level is said to bear a striking resemblance to the 4th level of Super C. There's a great entry for this at the Bootleg Games Fandom Wiki. Most of the bosses are aliens, and a lot of the content is surely not canon to the Contra franchise. Super Contra 7 is a popular addition to various "Famiclone" (Clone Famicom) compilations such as the Sup 400-in-1 and many Famiclone multicarts. One reason I really got into this stuff, is I find it wildly fascinating as both a gamer and a tech-guy what some of these companies come up with. Also, some of them are wildly hilarious. To me, the first thing that stuck out is the bright, childish colors compared to the official Contra games which really capture that late 80's/early 90's Action movie/war movie vibe with the green plants and natural scenery, and lots of robot tech.Catchy Tagline - My Experiences Videos Other Stuff |
