CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
RoboCop
1988, Data East, NES/Famicom
RoboCop was a 1987 movie about a fallen police officer put together with cybernetic Bio-Implants by his former job, while estranging what's left of the poor man from his family, leaving them assuming him dead. The Cybernetic implants were funded by this Law Enforcement technology agency intended to create the worlds first robotic and "super Cops" to fight crime. It was a smash hit, put the Ford Taurus on the map as a hit vehicle to some extent I'm sure (Robocop's car is basically a V6 Ford Taurus SHO), and of course, caused this video game.

In Robocop, it follows the plot of the movie, with various levels taking place where Robocop must fight crime. It's a mix of beat'em'up and run-n-gun type games with side scrolling platformer elements. It's actually also a port of an Arcade game of the same title.

Robocop would become a part of pop-culture for that little period of 1988-1992, spawning sequels to the movie and the games, and continuing to get revisisted off/on again ever since.
Can I Run People down in the Taurus Squad Car? BII K9 Unit? - My Experiences
I actually rented, and later OWNED the Blockbuster copy of this game as a kid. I first rented it and was utterly dissappointed, then my mom bought it for me at Blockbuster when they were selling off their Nintendo Cartridges (Back to the Future II & III was another one of those).

What bugged me so much about Robocop is I'd always lose the game getting stuck in some room with a spikey wall on wheels and some fat-cat rich asshole mocking me the whole time. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I never made it past that room. The door would not let me out, and that asshat probably just sat there with his Futuba radio control unit enjoying killing off my cybernetic cop buddy! Seriously, I wanted to reach into the game and stick him to the spike wall after he gets that Cigar jammed up hisass hole.

Also, the controls were absolutley sluggish and terrible. It felt like Robocop was a milquetoast in some medevil armor made out of cast iron! I mean, the way he moves, I would expect there to be hilarious squeaky and clanging noises when he walks! Maybe the Precinct's mechanic can give him a can of STP!
