CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
Popeye
1983, Nintendo, NES/Famicom
Popeye, considering it's an ancient franchise people probably forgot about by now. Basically, Popeye was a cartoon character that started out as a comic strip, and turned into a Multimedia Franchise starting in the 1930's and carried on till today. Basically the whole thing revolves around Popeye and is "Goyal'" Olive Oil, and their constant encounters with this giant buffoon named Bluto, who Popeye eventually get's the upper hand over by eathing Spinach and gaining superhuman strength. Anyway, famed Nintendo creator Shigeru Miyamoto sought to make a Popeye game for his first game, and eventaully, despite Donkey Kong becoming the first, this became the second big release Nintendo put out, and naturally, it was ported to many platforms including the Nintendo Family Computer, Atari 2600, Intellivisoin, and Colecovision.

In Popeye, the player, as Popeye, wanders around a strange sort of screen full of platforms and stairs catching hearts (represenative of Olive Oil's affections) that float down the screen while avoiding Bluto. If Popeye eats a can of spinach, he can go and chase Bluto around and beat him up.
