CREEPINGNET'S WORLD
1943
1986 Capcom, Famicom
(Also Released for the NES in the USA)
1943 - aka. 1943: The Battle of Midway - is a vertical shooter game created in 1987 by Capcom as a sequel to 1942. The names reference is to the "Battle of Midway" which occured on June 4-7th 1942 (so 1943 is kinda' a misnomer eh'). The battle took place six months after infamy at Pearl Harbor. IIRC, the Western releases had American soldiers fighting Japanese planes, and the Japanese releases had the Japanese fighting American soldiers.
One of my favorite Shoot-Em' Ups (Schmups) Pt. 2 - My Experiences
I always liked "Shooters", because they hearken back to the "Short spurt" type videogames I like of the Atari 2600 era, with the 1942 series being one of my favorites because it's straightforward, and it seems (at least in the first game) that it rewards the player for not being a stupid carpetbomber by giving hit-percentages for every bullet spent.
