![]() ![]() Basically what the Everdrive N8 is, is a "Flash Cartridge" for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It's designed to allow you to store NES ROMs on a game cartridge format. It has a menu system and supports running FAmicom games, as well as Famicom Disk System with automatic Disk Swap, Game Genie support, Expansion AUdio (ie VRC7 for Castlevania III FC and what have you), and up to 32GB SD Cards for storage. The idea is an all-in-one solution allowing you to run actual code on an actual NES, including titles that require special hardware not released on the NES. The Everdrive N8 (and it's higher priced sibling, the Everdrive N8 Pro, which adds support for screenshots and on-screen menus), allows you to play the games you own (or not) on actual original hardware. The Everdrive, it's easy - My Experiences At the end of last year, I bought a UnoCart - a Flash Cartridge (well, I more or less put that one together, including re-flashing the firmware after bricking it) for my Atari 2600 VCS for a multitude of reasons. I liked the results and decided since I also own two NES (compatible) Consoles, I might as well do the same with the NES. The same issues kind of drove me to this. First and foremost, being that sometimes I want to drag an NES all over the house - mostly my Retron AV1., but sometimes the O.G. NES as well. Doing this, I don't always want to drag 15 cartridges with me. Another reason for doing this is ROMs. Free ROMS on the web from independant developers, game demos I might buy, I might even take a crack at making my own NES games myself as well...after all, I've been taking some chances making games for the Atari 2600. Who knows, maybe I'll make my own Dragon Quest style RPG or something. And yes, there's some games I plan to have on it, that are expensive, hard to get, or otherwise, from other countries than the USA. I'm also using it to explore the NES catalog on actual hardware. The reason for this is because I have a lot of hard-to-get Japanese releases I like (Parodius is one of them), Japan is starting to frown on all the Famicom importing now, and there may even come a time where my Famicom section under Misc will be consolidated into THIS section. Using the Evercart N8 The process is pretty easy. You need an SDCARD (or MicroSD card in some versions), and an SDCARD reader on your computer. Just plug in the card, formatted to FAT-16 or FAT-32, and then drag and drop the ROMS on it, or organize into Folders like I prefer to do. After that, you fire the cartridge up, select your game, and play NES as usual. Game Genie codes are possible by loading a ROM, using the D-Pad to "Select Only" to load the ROM Code, then select "Cheats" and put in your Cheat Codes, up to Five (better than the O.G. Game Genie's three), and then start the game. Some of My Favorite NES Games not in my Regular Collection(S)
