I WALKTHROUGH | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Welcome to another insane walkthrough by your's truly. Today we're going to talk about Monster Trucks - in particular, Bigfoot, the original monster truck, and his madcap sea to shining sea dash of 1990!
Forget everything you knew about the big blue Ford. In this game, there's only one, maybe two Bigfoot trucks. Basically, a Bullnose (probably #4's old body) to commute to each race, and then waiting there is a new Bigfoot - 5.5 - a 1979 Ford F-880 longbed regular cab that has adjustable suspension, and can wear all tire sizes. Also, since Firestone finally put those 10 foot tall Alaskan Tundra tires back into production again (for god knows what reason other than this) your competiiton of ghosts from the 80's Monster Truck circuit: Growler, Crusher, Terminator, and so on - all in John Deere colors - are out for blood. Bring along a friend for some friendly competition instead, as they pilot High Roller Custom! (Red). So let's strap on in, and it does not even have to be sunday, sunday, sunday!SOME WORDS FROM THE SHOP FOREMAN & JIM KRAMER'S VIDEO GAME COUNTERPART Okay, so to understand how this here ol' Bigfoot game works, let's explain things in a way people can actually understand.... The game's split into 2 types of event - an overhead race that takes place through the American wilderness (sarcasm) because we all know that Monster Trucks travel show to show in pairs on their competition tires, running all over the countryside like wild gas-powered beasts (/sarcasm), and then the actual events you used to see on ESPN in the 80's (Car Crush, Tractor Pull, Hill Climbs, Mud Races...etc). Something fun to note, monster truck events have changed DRASTICALLY since that time. It used to be, they shared events with other purpose built vehicles such as mud racers, clinbing rigs, and purpose-built tractors for tractor pulling events. Today they don't do that anymore (it seems to me all they do is race and do freestyle, with a focus on the Freestyle events that tear up the truck deliberatley). However, you have to consider this was at the tail end of the "Factory Pickup Truck" lifted to an insane degree with military and agricultural components - whereas now we're going on gen 2 or 3 of the tubular frame fiberglass bodied, purpose built vehicles for these events that can do things one could only dream of in the 80's. Overhead Racing - These races are basically you against your sole competitor in a mad dash to the finish line through the country side. There are a LOT of elements so I built a table below....
Side Scroller Events - These are the events you are traveling through the wilderness to. These come in five varieties, and honestly, I always felt Acclaim/Beam Software missed an opportunity by not providing a track editor in this game! The truck is controlled by pressing left and right on the D-pad rapidly while using your B button to change gears, and your A button to add more nitrous boost to the engine. See event types below for basic details.
The game has you accumulating money, and points. POints are what determines the winner, not money, but money has a very important function, keeping your monster truck running in the best shape (financially) possible. There are four categories: engine, tires, transmission, and suspension, in that order, with 4 levels. Some make a visible difference, some only make a functional difference.
