Endless Becoming - Apartment
Chameleon Gallery, 2021
Endless Becoming Apartment is a virtual art exhibition/game released on Steam by Jonathan Turner and Chameleon Gallery. It was released in 2021.

In Endless Becoming Apartment, you play as a nameless character in some kind of huge complex or building, and it's all in Black and White. With the modern-ish architecture, sitting somewhere between Mid Century Modern and retro-40's late 80's, and some real surrealist moments, this is one interesting appraoch to game design. It has some minor puzzles that "unfold" the property to your access as you go along, and you're expected to figure it out yourself. It also has a pretty heavy "Liminal Space" element to it, without being just another derivative "backrooms" type game. Instead this one has a SoCal or Florida circa 1988 vibes. It allows the player to explore at their own pace and take in the scenery as much as they want.

Endless Becoming Apartment was one of three games I picked up toward the end of 2024 or early part of 2025 (I think the latter) and it's the least known of the lot. It seems that the game was an indie release that is criminally underrated. Maybe people are just not into this whole "vibe based gaming" that I'm really into. But that's why we are to talk about...
How Would I know, About your Life, And how about, a Long night.... - My Experiences
Seriously, this is the vibe of this "game" or "art exhibit", and I'm sure calling this an "art exhibit" would maybe get approval of Ocasek (who did some non-musical art of his own) or Warhol. It has the right vibe for something around that time.

The whole reason I really love these Walking simulators, is because life is just shit - all of life is. You're born not of the consent of your parents, you're most likely not born out of love, you're taught negativity on repeat, we have a shit government of partially elected officials, in a country being taken over by a fascist dictatorship, some people are toxic positive, some people are just so negative they drag you to a new low level. Everything is a construct of our glorified monkey brains. Some of us learn to function on that level, some of us don't. I'm one of those that's found a way to function by separating myself from everyone elses bullshit through these games. It's an escape. I'd like to throw in some headphones and wander endless halls for hours with no rhyme or reason. That's why "GameS" like this are for guys like me, who are sick and tired of the world around us. Yeah, welcome to 2025 - get me out of here!

So nothing more I'd love to do than throw "Door to Door" on a Walkman for some vibes and humor, and wander the Endless Becoming Apartment. A sparse, dense, somewhat surreal building about as peaceful as an afternoon in the woods - actually moreso...no bees. And just wander aimlessly, for fun. Some people don't find that fun, I find some real solace in "boring". It's quiet, it's surene, and it's chill. About the only thing to do is find some rotating squares.

Endless Becoming Apartment, is one of those games that pulls me away from the shit of society, and gets me away from people, and how much they drive me nuts as of late. I know this is kinda' hardcore for the "Gaming" section, but that's just how I've been feeling lately about things involving humanity. So these games have been my more recent, newer, outlet.

Maybe I'll delete and change this later, but I Wrote this experiences on the heels of a weekend spent on-call, dodging people, while hiding out in the garage playing this, because it's CALMING. And that's what I've been needing as of this writing, CALM.
