SILPHEED
Silpheed (in Japanese called シルフィード, Hepburn: Shirufīdo) is another Origin Systems Game Arts import designed by Takeshi Miyaji, and it too started life just like Thexder as a NEC PC-8801 release. It was also on the Fujitsu FM-7, and MS-DOS (this one) as well as later ported to the Sega CD.

In Silpheed, you fly in the ship of the same name as the last chance at the survival of Planet Earth from what I assume to be aliens. It plays a lot like a mix between X-Wing and Galaga, and features FM synthesized voices through the PC's internal speaker (with a pretty good soundtrack that gets periodically interrupted by sound effects like an NES game, LOL).

This was another one of those Origin Systems Japanese imports that wound up on the PC in the late 80's/early 90's. It failed to take off much in America from what I can tell, but it really fits the bill if you are wanting something for your old Tandy 1000 that might fit somewhere between Japan and USA as it really has that Anime-esque feel to it.
