MODERN COMPUTER HARDWARE Yeah, you actually CAN make some worthwhile changes to a modern computer. |
![]() On the flipside, the industry has been making moves to make things less user-upgradable, and more homogenized, in an effort to make sure that their machines are more likely to break, be rendered unaffordably fixable, and then replaced by something else in the same price bracket. However, to me, this is an unethical, and un-sustainable way of living. This is why I'm not a fan of the "consumer(tard)" PC, and more of a fan of the "Enterprise" PC. Because, believe it or not, they still do build quality devices, but they cost the same numbers as they did 10-20-30 years ago, but they also are BUILT like they were 10-20-30 years ago, and in the case of laptops, even better. I like them for the same reason car guys (like myself) also like the idea of a landing a used Police Cruiser as a daily driver, because it's actually built to a quality standard a regular "civilian" device is not built to handle. So below I will go into various hardware stuff, including some of the stuff I was trained in, to help people keep their machines alive. I'm a major advocate for the "Right to Repair" and I also know what's allowed and what is not (most of the stuff here is just me posting my own personal "Google-Fu" so other people don't need to hunt so hard).Pages
