Galaga 1987, Namco, Famicom/NES |
Galaga is an Arcade Classic released by Williams Entertainment in 1981. It has been ported to numerous platforms and systems since then including the Atari 2600/5200/7800, NES, Famicom, MSX, IBM PC, Commodore 64, and many others. The NES release came out sometime between 1985 and 1987, and was not that popular because by then, it was all about elaborate home console games like Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda and arcade classics such as this had fallen out of favor on home consoles as a result except with the older crowd that was a bit older still when these games came out in the arcades. It's also a sequel to Galaxian
In Galaga, the player flies a fighting spacecraft at the bottom of the screen, shooting at what look like little bugs up top that fly around and throw missiles at you. If you can clear the entire "wave" of little buggies, you move to the next wave. There are also bonus rounds where the enemies fly from the top of the screen and then off screen kind of like they do in 1942. Galaga is such a immense classic arcade game that it's been ported to a lot of platforms over the years, and even the arcade game has been reissued several times, including a "class of 81'" release paired with the equally as Ubiqutous Ms. Pac-Man.Catchy Tagline - Finally, a Decent Port of Galaga where I don't need Quarters!
